Don't call the ghost , O mother

Don't call the ghost , O mother ,
You don't call the ghost.

I will be quiet , not demand milk ,
I will eat rice , not cry.

I will not go where girls are
and close their eyes from behind .
I will not beat the children ,
and scold my elder brother ,
Will not ask butter to eat
and will not eat mud.

I will not go to the well ,
and play on the snake !
I will not let the calves
to drink the milk from the cows ,
Like God , I will sit in a corner !

Hearing the words of his son ,
Gopidevi smiled !
Full of affection and emotion
Took the Shri puraMdara viThala ,
the Lord of the Universe into her embrace

this is translation of 'gummana kareyadire'
This is about Young Krishna conversing with his mother Gopidevi .
Playing on the snake
refures to the incident called kALiNga Mardana , Where KrishNa dances on the hoood of a Giant Serpent and kills it.

The parrot is no more in the cage !

(translation from a poem - giLiyu paMjaradoLilla -
by Shri Purandaradaasaru in Kannada , the language of Karnataka , India )

The parrot is no more in the cage ,O My God , Rama ,
The parrot is no more in the cage .

O sister , I listened to you
and kept a pet ,
and When I was away ,
A cat snatched it away .

I showered all my affection
and put the necklace of pearls on its neck
A parrot which was a precious pearl
I don't know where it flew away !

'Rama' , 'Rama' It used to utter
an It was delicate ,
It was beautiful green one and a wise one
I don't know where it flew away !

it was in a house of nine doors ,
full of people ,
broke away the pillars
and flew to the sky ..

It used to sit on my palm
and on the back of my hand
Now it flew away to be with
Ranga-puraMdara viThala , My god!

The background ...
It is said that , the purandaradasa sang it when his child died .
the song is full of grief and usually played at the times of mourning of death.

The english language is not my first language ... so it may not be perfect .. though it need improvement ... I think it still conveys the essence ...
